Praying for Our Children's Future

October 4, 2009 | Filed Under Public Domain Pictures | No Comments

In this third post on praying for our children, I wanted to touch on praying for their future. I start by praying for their immediate future. For example, with school starting back next week, I pray for each of the girls to have a good friend in their class who will encourage them to do right. I pray for upcoming tests, recitals or other performances, that our child would have God’s peace and recall of the things they have learned. I also pray for things that are more long term, such as t

What Does Love Look Like To Your Child?

October 4, 2009 | Filed Under Public Domain Pictures | No Comments

How would you answer the question - What does love look like to your child? In Galatians 5:22, we are given a list of the fruit of the spirit and the first one is love. I have realized that over and over again in the Bible we are commanded to love one another. My thought is that we are given that particular commandment so often because, while it is totally natural for us to love ourselves, it is often outside the realm of what we normally feel to love other people. So how do my daughters know

Applesauce Pear Muffins

September 30, 2009 | Filed Under Public Domain Pictures | No Comments

If you haven’t guessed it from all the muffin recipes I’ve shared before, I’ll let you know that I love having homemade baked goods around the house for breakfasts and snacks. This recipe was inspired by a couple of ripe pears that I needed to use up. These muffins are very moist with a lightly sweet flavor and are at least a bit on the healthier side with the inclusion of wheat flour and the ripe pears. Applesauce Pear Muffins 1 cup all-purpose flour ½ cup whole wheat flour ¾ cup sugar 1

Love Thy Neighbor’s Mug Shot

September 29, 2009 | Filed Under Public Domain Pictures | No Comments

Given the trouble newspapers are having staying afloat—which includes paying for reporters, news gathering, and making (or leasing) photographs to illustrate stories—cutting costs is a key to survival. A startling article by Tim Badgett in the September 21st issue of Time magazine described how some papers are simultaneously trimming picture budgets and bulking up online readership by featuring digital, continua

Lessons That Speak To Us All

September 28, 2009 | Filed Under Public Domain Pictures | No Comments

Sometime ago I did a book review on Wisdom and the Millers: Proverbs for Children (Miller Family (Harvest House)) by Mildred A. Martin. This is a book we used for our family Bible study time which we do after supper each week night. I mentioned how much we liked reading that book and discussing with our girls the principles each story illustrated. We are now reading School Days with the Millers (Miller Family (Harvest House)) and enjoying it just as much as the other one. One of the t
