Now you can. Sort of. The Internet Archive has a site with many public domain movies. Three days ago, Google’s copyright bot flagged a video as infringing because 236.com (Arianna Huffington’s comedy news outfit) had posted a parody video using the footage with a content identification sig on it.
A little over a year ago I purchased my first IPOD. Soon thereafter, I discovered the wonderful world of podcasting. One podcast that I enjoy is the B-Movie Cast, hosted by Vince Rotolo. It was here that I first heard of “Public Domain Movies”. In short, public domain films, are films that are no longer owned or controlled by anyone, making them free and accessible for download by the public. A couple of sites that I have discovered are: www.archive.org and http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/.
