Nina Paley is an indie animator who wants to legally distribute her movie using music that is in the public domain. The problem is that “synch royalties” will cost her over $500,000(!) to obtain, and multiple companies claim 100% ownership of the same royalties(!!!). Wouldn’t it be great if someone wrote free software that synced music and video?

Filed under: Nintendo Wii, E3, Rhythm Speaking at the Nintendo’s 2008 E3 developer roundtable, Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the Wii Music “game” disc will contain 50 songs, featuring a variety of of public domain songs, as well as licensed music. The Sky News anchor Kay Burley collapsed on air this week, just as she was finishing off a lunchtime bulletin. Her ill-health, it has turned out, is linked to her worries about Barry George, who was acquitted on appeal, in August, after spending several years in prison for the murder of television presenter Jill Dando.
